For those of you who enjoy reading about food as much as eating it treat yourself to a subscription of The Art of Eating.

It is a meticulously researched, beautifully written quarterly publication by Edward Behr. The Art of Eating is about the best food and wine and what they are, how they are produced, where to find them (the farms, markets, shops, restaurants). The Art of Eating has appeared four times a year since the first eight-page letter of 1986. There is no advertising (yeah!). Each issue is now 32 to 48 pages long, handsomely printed, and illustrated with photographs in black and white. There are typically several recipes, notes on resources, book reviews, plus, according to the subject, addresses of exceptional open-air markets, bakers, cheesemakers, cheese shops, wineries, olive-oil mills, charcutiers, chocolatiers, or restaurants (from haute cuisine to simple and local). A subscription, foreign by air or domestic, is $39 a year or $69 for two years. There is always a copy at the restaurant so check it out the next time you visit.
